    Gongbei Customs was originally built on April 2, 1887, and was renamed Gongbei Customs in January 1950. In June 1984, it was approved by The State Council to be a regular bureau level customs. The customs area covers two prefecture-level cities, Zhuhai and Zhongshan. It has 11 first-class ports, 7 original second-class ports and 2 intermediate supervision stations.

    Customs work mainly presents the following characteristics: First, complete categories. In addition to air transport supervision as its temporary business, it covers all types of customs business,and it's inspection and testing business covers all areas. Second, the volume of travel inspection business is outstanding, with 97.602 million inbound and outbound personnel under supervision in 2022. Third, the freight business and tax revenue rank in the middle of the rank, with 138.999 million tons of imported and exported goods under supervision in 2022, with a total import and export value of 585.22 billion yuan, and tax revenue of 15.325 billion yuan. Fourth, there were notable achievements in combating smuggling. In 2022, 11,209 illegal smuggling cases of various kinds were seized, with a value of 8.350 billion yuan and involving 1.01 billion yuan in taxes. Fifth, it is adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao and has high social attention. The Customs Area is the only customs directly under the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions connected by land bridge at the same time. It faces the tasks of fully and accurately implementing the "one country, two systems" rule, serving the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and supporting Hong Kong and Macao's integration into the overall development of the country.
